Copper Harbor's Point Trail is full of unique microenvironments that span the breadth of what makes the Keweenaw the Keweenaw. One that always makes me stop is in the first mile of trail along Schlatter Lake. The smooth and sometimes sandy, sometimes hard-packed trail snakes through pines that tower along a steep hillside next to the lake. Though one of the smaller lakes in county, it's big enough to be a surprise when it appears through the trees. The tight turns and quick ups and downs along the lake make the ride out to Keystone Bay one of (the many) highlights of the trail.
