By midwinter, after the city streets have been reduced to a single lane by the Keweenaw’s always relentless snowfall, the SnoGo emerges from its haunt. Like a grain harvester, it works its way through the neighborhoods, collecting white the season’s first of perhaps several harvests in its giant auger and launching it into an awaiting line of dumptrucks. Left behind is a cross section of the season’s snowfall. Large bands from the first big blizzards and lake effect events, narrow bands of brown from brief warm-ups.
